The Next Narrative: Nominations Open For Top 15 Young Geeks 2023

Can you believe it? March 2023 marks 10 years since the establishment of Geekulcha and what a joruney it has been. Geekulcha has introduced a variety of things to help make the South Africa and global tech ecosystem exciting and vibrant. The work of Geekulcha has been featured in 5 books around the world as well as to form part of numerous journals by institutions such as The World Back, universities in Canada, Kenya, Argentina and other countries. Geek is the new cool as the saying goes, indeed, it has now become cool to be Geek.

  • As Geekulcha marks 10 years old this year, it has a set a year focus as "The Next Narrative" and accordingly, challenges local techies to define, create and live up to the next tech/digital narrative that will place the country and the continent at the forefront of industrial development.

The Top 15 Young Geeks programme is yet another mechanism that seeks to ignite the local Geek Culture by recognising and profiling young tech talent that are going beyond in tech and community development. Since 2017, Geekulcha and partners have used the youth month to place a spotlight on local geeks doing outstanding work in the community or to building own capacities.

Nominate a geek or yourself

Nominations for the Top 15 Young Geeks of 2023 opened on the 1st of January 2023 and the community may nominate local techies to be named as part of this year's class. As of 2022, Geekulcha introduced a new categories which were announced at the Centre for Public Service Innovation's Public Sector Innovation Awards.

Once again, the following special categories of the Top 15 Young Geeks will be recognised:

  • Best Knowledge Transfer Geek
  • Best of project of 2023
  • Ultimate Geekstar of the Year

All the Top 15 Young Geeks will be profiled through the youth month as part of the listing to make a recognition by the young tech professionals in South Africa.
