The year was 2016, mid-Spring and the mood is that of the Geekulcha team in an obsessive mode of a need to create HAVOC. They decided to go play outside and while on the move, a thought to make the Geekulcha Annual Hackathon more impactful was born.
Hackathons are generally free to attend and Geekulcha has facilitated over 250 Hackathons since it's formation and all of them have been free to register and attend. The only requirement of the Geekulcha Annual Hackathon is that developers bring along items as entry tocken such as:
- Old technology based books
- Cans of food
- Sanitary towels for girls
- Old clothes / blankets
All these items have been donated to the needy in the past. Books have been provided onto marginalised communities to help the younger generation gain more knowledge into the industry while sanitary towels help a girl child stay in school.
On 29 September to 01 October 2023, developers from across Africa are invited to take part at the hybrid edition of the Geekulcha Annual Hackathon with physical venue at UNISA, Muckleneuk campus.
This 42 hour Hackathon challenges African developers to develop proactive solutions that define the next Digital Narrative. Africa must be ready and be prepared for any possibilities and such, the next Digital Narrative needs to be for everyone.
Registration for the Geekulcha Annual Hackathon is open here: hackathon.gklink.co
