Geekulcha 2022: We Love It For The Culture

If you look closely, you will see the word "culture" fused on the name Geekulcha - we blame Mixo for that. Geekulcha is a platform that builds, embrace, celebrate and elevate a culture of Geeks in South Africa and the world at large.

There is so much in culture, culture incorporates a variety of elements from language to food to dance to way of life and a lot of indigenous know. South Africa is reach on culture, a rainbow nation that stands proud and live up to who we were, who we are and who we will be.

Geekulcha has always enjoyed cultural activities, at times - Mixo and Tiyani would gate crush cultural activities. The year 2022 presented another opportunity to be on the ground and form part of cultural activities.

1. Launch of the Vuligqondo Digital Lab

On 19 March 2022, the Geekulcha team travelled to Maphotla Village village together with the Centre for Public Service Innovation to support and implement the launch of the Vuligqondo Digital Lab.

It was a very cultural event with acts, music and dance. The event was graced by Ndabezitha Nxumalo.

2. Dr Ester Mahlangu House

We made a stop at Dr Ester Mahlangu House in Siyabuswa to check out the amazing artwork. Geekulcha is pleased that the foundation is building a school as a way of skills transfer into future generations.

3. Heritage Day Hackathon

It was a wavering hot and dry day of early Spring in Siyabuswa. The birds were singing and so were different cultures across the country as the nation celebrated Heritage Day on the 24th of September 2022.

The team at Vuligqondo Digital Lab, Geekulcha and Startup Business Campus had set up a pop-up lab at the Siyabuswa shopping centre at the "Isuku lamagugu" - a Ndebele phrase citing Heritage Day.

Other activities were attending and we want to see the culture thriving forward and guiding future generations. African technonolists ought to live up to a digital narrative that will help the continent be at the forefront of technological evolution and a greater emancipation by the masses.
