NEMISA Data Science Hackathon 2020
The inaugural NEMISA Virtual Data Science Hackathon was held over 3 days in March 2020 at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre in Johannesburg, as part of the NEMISA 4IR Digital Skills Summit and Research Colloquium.
The hackathon challenged participants to engage with government data to unlock insights that could inform policy decisions. The hackathon was a collaborative multi-stakeholder partnership between provincial governments, institutions of higher learning, youth formations, digital technology experts and mentors in partnership with data science enthusiasts. It attracted young techies from as far as North West, Eastern Cape and Limpopo and was won by The Guardian, whose team received the top prize of R50 000.
