4IR AquaTech Hackathon 2021

Thu, 24 Jun 2021 with Business Clinic

In June 2021, in partnership with The Business Clinic, the EWSETA, Eastern Cape Office of the Premier, ASPIRE, the CPSI and Geekulcha facilitated a 36-hour hackathon in search of 4IR-enabled solutions for water-energy-food nexus challenges in the Eastern Cape province. The AquaTech hackathon focused on fast-tracking solution development to help unearth innovation with a particular focus on the Eastern Cape.

The hackathon was also preceded by a socio-technical debate on Thursday 24 June 2021 to acquaint participants with a deeper contextual understanding of the issues needing to be addressed. The debate included stakeholders from the Young Water Professionals Board, Energy and Water SETA, Amathole District Municipality, and BORDA Africa.

The hackathon encouraged participants to ideate and develop Minimal Viable Product (MVP) solutions to the problem statements developed by the stakeholders and the top seven scoring teams were given the opportunity to pitch to the 4IR AquaTech Accelerator, a 6-month mentorship driven programme that is designed to identify, develop, support, fund, and up-scale a new generation of 4IR enabled solutions.
