ABOUT NITASHA PILLAY

Nitasha is BCom Honours Information Systems Technology (Cum Laude) graduate. She also completed her BCom Marketing and Information Systems Technology in 2021 at UKZN. Nitasha is currently an Analyst at KPMG under the Tech Assurance Division. Nitasha has received both local and international awards whilst being a student at UKZN. Nitasha won the Aspiring Teen Women in Tech Award and was presented this award by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Marwan Al Maktoum in Dubai. She has featured on eNCA News, radio, print, and virtual newspapers for the work she does in empowering others in the tech space.

She is passionate about technology and empowering students because she believes that we are the future leaders who will #inspiregreatness. In her spare time, she mentors students about careers in the tech space. Nitasha is currently a member of Women in Tech South Africa, whereby she works alongside a team of dynamic women that aim to promote STEM fields and close the gender gap and to help women and youth embrace technology. Nitasha Pillay is the co-founder and 2022 president of Tech Society UKZN and is on a mission to make a difference through technology in the UKZN community. he never settles for mediocrity but reaches for success in all her aspirations. Nitasha is innovative and continually finds ways to improve herself by developing new skills while helping others. In any space Nitasha is placed in, she grows and adds value.

The work of Nitasha Pillay

Nitasha is currently a member of Women in Tech South Africa, whereby she works alongside a team of dynamic women that aim to promote STEM fields and close the gender gap and to help women and youth embrace technology. Nitasha Pillay is the co-founder and 2022 president of Tech Society UKZN and is on a mission to make a difference through technology in the UKZN community.


The society as of 2022 has over 200 student members across UKZN. In primary school, Nitasha participated in the Lego League robotics competition. Participating in this competition taught her the importance of teamwork, creativity, innovation, and robotics from a tender age. Nitasha was the former project manager of an Enactus project that deals with the education sector.

She led a team of passionate individuals as well as arrange youth development initiatives. At the start of 2024, Nitasha and her team assisted over 100 students at the Nelson Mandela Youth Centre with the NSFAS bursary application.

During the 2021 final matric examination, her project assisted over 150 learners with free tutoring to succeed in their exams. Nitasha was a UKZN Peer Academic Mentor and assisted first-year students with their academics. In 2021, Nitasha had the privilege of representing her university (UKZN) at Innovate Durban's Youth Innovation Challenge. TaggedAI was placed 2nd in the competition.

Nitasha was also awarded the Zutari Woman in Design Award. She also represented UKZN in the 2021 Unilever Entrepreneurship Challenge.
