NOMINATIONS OPEN: Top 15 Young Geeks Is Now Continental

The rate of change in the world of tech presents the African continent with an exciting opportunity to define a digital narrative that will help shape its future. Investing in talent is paramount in helping achieve this journey of the African digital narrative, and it must start by assessing and understanding the health of the Africa tech ecosystem.

In 2017, Geekulcha created the Top 15 Young Geeks programme in South Africa as a way to help channel support onto what would be deemed as "the rising tech stars in South Africa", and this has helped understand some of the work and capacity that the local ecosystem has. The list of the selected geeks is released each year in June after an adjudication process where the finalists present their work before a multi-sector panel of expertise.

Over the years, the Top 15 Young Geeks list has been most anticipated and always served as an inspiration to the young and upcoming techies to strive for greatness but most importantly, creating long-lasting impact in society.

Nominations for the Top 15 Young Geeks open at midnight on the new year of each year and close on the 30th of April. Also included are special awards to recognize the most outstanding Geeks, looking at mastery of one's work domain; knowledge transfer; future leadership; best innovator; and ultimate Geekstar of the year.

This year's edition of the Top 15 Young Geeks seeks to find Africa Geeks who are harnessing intelligence for sustainable growth onto themselves or enabling communities to adapt and be full participants in the smart growing world in the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other technological advancements that seek to enterprise mankind.

EXPANDING THE PROGRAMME TO THE REST OF THE CONTINENT

The Geekulcha community has over 33 000 developers and innovators from across the continent who live up to the "Geek Culture" and thus, the organisation has seen it necessary to further the understanding of the tech ecosystem onto the rest of the content. Geekulcha seeks to unravel tech jams and unearth some of the innovative solutions that African geeks have been working on.

For the first time, the Top 15 Young Geeks programme will seek to ignite the capable competences of Geeks at a continental level and help shape a digital future leadership for Africa.

So, who are those Geeks living up and building the African digital narrative? Let's nominate and put a spotlight on their work. Geekulcha urges the industry to not only hire geeks but invest more in capacity building in order to achieve the greatest level of skills for the current and emerging markets and technological shifts.
