In 2016, Geekulcha entered into a collaboration with the Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) to use skateboarding as a way to engage and attract more young people to STEM. SkateHacks was an initiative which taught skaters and makers to use Big Data, Machine Learning and IoT fundamentals to add tech to their skateboards and build mobile apps and games relating to skateboarding.
