In 2020, Geekulcha and Creative Space Media delivered the inaugural MTN Business App Academy, a nationwide virtual (taking into account COVID-19 restrictions) coding course which, over the course of six weeks, taught novice and beginner developers to create and launch an app. The apps that were developed during the Academy and Hackathon (held at the end of the six weeks) were entered into a new category at the annual App of the Year Awards.

Geekulcha designed the curriculum, engaged facilitators to deliver two live sessions a week, and managed a community of 813 participants. The App Academy creates a pipeline of innovation to mentor and upskill aspiring talent for careers in app development and encourage them to build digital solutions that benefit the economy and local communiteis.
